Story
A supernatural love story set in the South, "Beautiful Creatures" tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their townSummary
In the race to become the next Twilight, there are plenty of potential franchises in the running, but, according to writer-director Richard LaGravenese (The Freedom Writers), the upcoming Beautiful Creatures isn't one of them. "It's not Twilight," LaGravenese told Movieline at the New York Comic-Con (NYCC) last month. "I'm sorry, it's just not. I mean, yes, it's a love story and one of them has powers, but that's it." Perhaps the confusion comes from the fact that, like Twilight, Beautiful Creatures is based on a young-adult novel (written by by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl) and the first trailer, released in September, seemed to focus on the "supernatural love story" aspect of the movie, which certainly recalled Twilight. The latest trailer focuses less on the "love story," and more on the "supernatural," with teenager Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) struggling with the prospect of her sixteenth birthday, where a ritual called the Claiming will decide whether her mystical abilities will forever be light or dark.
